Four-time 'Harry Potter' director David Yates has signed on to helm J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón was previously in talks to direct the planned 'Harry Potter' spin-off movie.

Yates returns to the Wizarding World after having directed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).

The film is based on J.K. Rowling's world of witches and wizards and is inspired by Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook of the same name. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first film in a planned trilogy and will mark Rowling's screenwriting debut.

The story will be set 70 years before the first 'Harry Potter' installment began, and involve the New York-set adventures of the book's fictitious author, Newt Scamander. 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' opens in theaters on November 18, 2016. Source: Variety
