photoJamie Foxx is in early talks to play the central villain in the highly anticipated The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel to last summer's Spider-Man reboot, reports Variety.

Foxx would play the supervillain Electro, the alter ego of Max Dillon, an enemy of Spider-Man who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man #9" in February 1964.

Today Foxx tweeted, "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well."

"I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying," director Marc Webb said today at a press event. "I would love to work with him and you'll be hearing more on that shortly, I'm sure."

There was a hint that Electro would be the villain of the next movie at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man, Dr. Curt Connors is locked up in prison when there's a thunderous lightning strike and another man suddenly appears (Michael Massee), hidden in shadow, who questions the good doctor as to whether Parker found out the truth about his father. After another lightning flash, Connors' shadowy friend is gone.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are onboard to return, with Shailene Woodley in talks to join the cast as Mary Jane Watson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated to swing into 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 2, 2014.
