Disney Announces New Star Wars Trilogy Release Plans. Disney has announced plans to release the next three Star Wars films in the summer of 2015, 2017 and 2019 beginning with Episode VII. Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams will helm Episode VII from a script by Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3). The new Star Wars trilogy will tell an original story and George Lucas will act as creative consultant on the project. Kathleen Kennedy, imminent President of Lucasfilm, will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, and as executive producer on the new feature films.

Kennedy and Disney plan a slate of new Star Wars feature films, beginning with the long-awaited Star Wars: Episode VII, targeted for release in 2015, followed by Episodes VIII and IX.
