Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Explained

The official Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer arrived with much fanfare, but left many with questions about the characters and the plot. Let’s analyze each shot and answer the top 10 questions fans have so far. Update: Lucasfilm has announced the names of the main characters! “Many Bothans died to bring us this information.”

1. “There’s Been an Awakening, Have You Felt It?”
Andy Serkis (‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, ‘Planet of the Apes’ reboots) provides the voice over in the trailer. The Jedi don’t only “use the force” they can feel a disturbance in the force as well.

2. John Boyega is a Stormtrooper?
Finn (John Boyega) is a main character in the film and likely not a Stormtrooper. It appears that his character is only disguised as a Stormtrooper and arrives on the desert planet of Tatooine in an Escape Pod or is shot down.

3. Aren’t all the Stormtroopers Clones?
The first Stormtroopers were clones but in Star Wars lore they were eventually replaced by natural beings after the events of ‘Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith’.

4. What’s up with that Soccer Ball Droid?
“These aren’t the droids we’re looking for.” The “Soccer Ball Droid” is named BB-8 and looks like an interactive Astromech Droid. What’s really important is that Tatooine is the former home planet of Luke Skywalker and his two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO.
