Stephen Frears Frontrunner to Direct Freddie Mercury. Stephen Frears, the Oscar nominated director of The Queen (2006), has emerged as an early frontrunner to direct GK Films’ untitled biopic about Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the rock band Queen. Sacha Baron Cohen (The Dictator, Hugo) is attached to play Mercury. Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) wrote the latest draft of the script about the late singer/songwriter’s life. Producers have already landed music rights to several of Queen’s biggest hits. The movie will focus on the years leading up to Queen’s appearance at the Live Aid concert in 1985. See More

The NFL and NBC announced on Sunday that multi Grammy Award-winning recording artist, actor and W.E. film director Madonna will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show on NBC Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Madonna’s performance will be imagined by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King.
