Morgan Freeman Join’s Cruise in Oblivion Adaptation. Morgan Freeman will play a critical role in Universal’s upcoming science fiction adventure. Freeman will join Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and Andrea Riseborough (W.E.) in director Joseph Kosinski’s untitled post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure. Created by Kosinski and written by Arvid Nelson, the film formerly known as Oblivion and Horizons is set in a post-apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds because Earth is no longer habitable. Akira

Watanabe Set to Replace Oldman in Akira. Japanese actor Ken Watanabe (Inception, Batman Begins) is being offered the role of The Colonel in Warner Bros.’ live-action, American, adaptation of the Japanese anime classic ‘Akira’. Watanabe would replace Gary Oldman who was in talks to play the government official charged with harnessing the psychokinetic powers of wayward teen Tetsuo. Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) is in negotiations for the role of motorcyle gang leader Kaneda, one of the film’s two male leads. Kristen Stewart and Helena Bonham Carter are reportedly also being offered parts. The movie is set in a place called New Manhattan and follows two brothers, Kaneda the leader of a motorcyle gang and Tetsuo, a teen with telekinetic abilities who becomes a dangerous weapon. ‘Akira’ is based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s graphic novel and 1988 anime feature. Justin Lin Drops Out as Terminator 5 Director. Director Justin Lin has exited the planned fifth installment of the ‘Terminator’ franchise due to scheduling conflicts. Lin (Fast Five) will be busy working on the sixth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise tentatively titled ‘Fast and Furious 6′. ‘Terminator 5′ will be closer tonally to the first and second movies ‘The Terminator’ and ‘T2: Judgement Day’. In an alternative timeline, a Terminator from the post-apocalyptic future is sent to kill a young John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. See More

Priest DVD and Blu-ray Announced. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Blu-ray and DVD releases of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller ‘Priest’ which stars Paul Bettany, Lily Collins and Karl Urban. ‘Priest’ will be available to own in a Rated DVD, Unrated Blu-ray and Unrated 3D Blu-ray on August 16, 2011. Special Features will include deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and more. The 3D Blu-ray release will include a 3D exploration of the vehicles and weapons in the film. Based on the graphic novel series by Min-Woo Hyung, ‘Priest’ centers on a warrior priest (Bettany) who defies the church to chase down a band of vampires who kidnapped his niece.
