Star Trek 2 Begins Production. Director J.J. Abrams has begun principal photography on the next Star Trek movie. The film will be released on May 17, 2013 in 3D. Returning to their posts on the Enterprise are John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. They are joined by new cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller. “Star Trek 2″ will tell the story of the young crew’s next voyage on board the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Among the films expected to drive sales of merchandise in 2012 are J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2, slated for a summer 2012 release, Marvel’s The Avengers with the tagline “It’s Time to Assemble!,” Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern (2011) live-action film and new CG animated series, Christopher Nolan’s final Batman feature The Dark Knight Rises and Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel feature film.
