    Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner have joined ‘The Avengers’ as The Hulk and Hawkeye, respectively. Mark Ruffalo (Shutter Island, Date Night) has been cast in the superhero ensemble as Dr. Bruce Banner, the nuclear physicist who transforms into The Incredible Hulk (news). ‘The Avengers’ assembles the superheroes Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Incredible Hulk in one film.

    Plot Details

    They are Earth’s mightiest heroes, formed to fight the foes no single hero could withstand. The Avengers are the most prestigious and powerful super-hero team in the world, an ever-shifting assemblage of super-beings, adventurers and crime fighters devoted to protecting the planet from menaces beyond the scope of conventional authorities.

    Marvel Studios is wrapping up a deal with Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly) to helm ‘The Avengers’, which assembles the superheroes Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Incredible Hulk in one film. Variety

    “The Avengers” will star Robert Downey Jr. (as Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth(Thor) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). Edward Norton may also return as the Hulk. Whedon’s credits include “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Firefly,” “Angel,” ‘Serenity’, “Dollhouse” and upcoming ‘The Cabin in the Woods’.

    July 11, 2010 – Edward Norton responds to being cut from “The Avengers.” Marvel has parted ways with Edward Norton as the Hulk over what the studio calls “creative and collaborative” differences. “This seemed to us to be a financial decision,” said Norton’s agent. Norton personally responded on his Facebook page.

    June 4, 2010 – Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is in final negotiations to join “The Avengers,” Marvel Studios’ big-screen take on its superhero team that’s being directed by Joss Whedon. Renner will play the bow-and-arrow-carrying hero Hawkeye, who, while not one of the initial members of the team when it was created in the 1960s, became an integral member soon after when the misguided villain switched sides.
