Plot Details

“The Wolverine” finds Logan (Hugh Jackman) falling in love with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is promised to another man. The forbidden romance puts Logan at war with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers.

August 2, 2011 – Mark Bomback Rewriting ‘The Wolverine’. Screenwriter Mark Bomback has been brought on to rewrite Christopher McQuarrie’s script for Fox’s sequel to ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’. Bomback wrote Bryan Singer’s upcoming ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ and Len Wiseman’s ‘Total Recall’ remake. (Variety)

July 27, 2011 – Silver Samurai Villain in ‘Wolverine 2′. Actor Hugh Jackman has confirmed that comic book adversary Silver Samurai is the central villain in the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ sequel titled ‘The Wolverine’. Silver Samurai, real name Kenuichio Harada, is a self-styled samurai warrior who has played both hero and villain in Marvel Comics’. Harada is a mutant with the unique ability to create tachyon fields that enable his katana to slice through anything but adamantium. (Superherohype)

June 16, 2011 – James Mangold to Direct The Wolverine. 20th Century Fox has chosen James Mangold to direct ‘The Wolverine’, the sequel to the ‘X-Men’ spinoff ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ (2009). Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) most recently directed last year’s lukewarm-received ‘Knight and Day’. Principal photography is reportedly scheduled to begin in the fall with the majority of production to take place in Japan. (Deadline)

March 19, 2011 – Darren Aronofsky Exits, The Wolverine Delayed Indefinitely? First, the Oscar-nominated director of ‘Black Swan’ dropped out of ‘The Wolverine’, due to the out-of-country production keeping him away from his family for too long. Now, Entertainment Weekly is reporting the unfolding crisis in Japan, where much of the movie was to be shot, could delay production indefinitely. (EW)

November 15, 2010 – Aronofsky reveals title of next ‘Wolverine’ movie. We now know the movie title for Fox’s ‘Wolverine’ sequel. Director Darren Aronofsky revealed the follow-up will be titled “The Wolverine” and will not be considered a sequel to last year’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” directed by Gavin Hood. (HitFix)
