Chronicle star Dane DeHaan has been cast as Harry Osborn in Columbia Pictures upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Harry, the son of Norman Osborn and his alter-ego Green Goblin, was in the comics a close friend and classmate to Peter Parker and later became a villain, taking up the Goblin mantle himself. In Sam Raimi's original trilogy, the role was played by James Franco.
DeHaan will join the cast alongside Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Jamie Foxx as the villain Max Dillon/Electro.
Director Marc Webb made the announcement today as he prepares to begin production on the next chapter of the blockbuster franchise. "Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast," Webb said.
DeHaan caught moviegoers' attention with his performance in one of the year's biggest sleeper hits, the science fiction adventure Chronicle, directed by Josh Trank.
The new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.
