FOX has commitment to air a new TV pilot for The Greatest American Hero, a reboot of writer Steven J. Cannell's classic '80s TV series that starred William Katt, Robert Culp, Connie Sellecca and Michael Paré.

The superhero action comedy is being executive produced by television director Tawnia McKiernan (Cannell's daughter) alongside Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of Sony's film franchise reboot of Cannell's 21 Jump Street.

According to Deadline, the revamped 'The Greatest American Hero' would "chronicle inner-city teacher Isaac's adventures after his discovery of a superhero suit that gives him superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for Isaac, he hates wearing the suit and has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error because he quickly misplaces the suit's instructions. He also has to deal with a government handler who has very different objectives than him and struggles as to whether he should use his newfound gifts to help others or just himself."

The original series aired for three seasons between 1981–1983 on ABC. The show's theme song, "Believe It Or Not," hit No. 2 on the Billboard 100 in 1981.
