imageMickey Rourke has accepted the role as the new villain in Iron Man 2. The actor's rep was finally able to negotiate an increase in salary after Marvel Entertainment low-balled the star with an unacceptable $250K original offer.

Rourke's encounters with Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. on the awards circuit help to seal the deal.

Rourke met with director Jon Favreau and screenwriter Justin Theroux and got to be part of the development of his character. Rourke will play a Russian villain named Whiplash, an amalgamation of that Marvel character and another named Crimson Dynamo.

Rourke blazed a comeback in recent years with a starring role in the Robert Rodriguez-directed comic book adaptation Sin City and most recently in the Darren Aronofsky award-winning drama The Wrestler.

Mickey Rourke will also co-star in the action film 'The Expendables', starring Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and a confirmed cameo by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Source
