Director Joss Whedon has confirmed that comic book superhero siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will join The Avengers 2 movie line-up.

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Samuel L. Jackson are expected to return in the highly anticipated superhero action sequel.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Pietro Maximoff aka “Quicksilver” has the power of superhuman speed and Wanda Maximoff aka “Scarlet Witch” has the ability to manipulate objects via her “hexes”.

In an interview with IGN, Whedon confirmed the rumor, “You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

In the sequel, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow assemble to defeat the intergalactic enemy Thanos. Marvel’s The Avengers 2 is due in conventional theaters, digital 3D and IMAX 3D on May 1, 2015.
